On Friday, the AustralianGovernmentreleased a Pre-Departure pack for migrant women who marry Australian residents and arrive on Partner visas . If you have married an Australian Resident and planning to move to leave your country, this is what you should be reading now. National Roundtable on reducing Violence against Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Women and Children has released a family safety pack thataims to reduce violence against women from CALD backgrounds by providinginformation about the laws in Australia and womens right to be safe, to people coming to Australia on a partner visa. It also aims to strengthen support for women coming to Australia on a partner visa by providing information on the family violence visa provisions and available support. The National Roundtable was attended by ministers from all States.
The PRE DEPARTURE PACK FOR CALD includes four factsheets (translated into 22 languages):
-domestic and family violence
-sexual assault
-forced and early marriage
-family violence and partner visas.
The pack also includes a low literacy storyboard with pictures and minimal text.
The family safety pack was developed as part of the Second Action Plan of theNational Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022. The Second Action Plan has a particular focus on addressing violence against and improving support available for women from CALD backgrounds.
A link to the pack will be included in all partner visa grant letters issued by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
